Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) offers resources and services to help health care organizations make dramatic and long-lasting improvements that enhance clinical outcomes and reduce costs. IHI's measures of improvement include improved health status, better clinical outcomes, lower cost, broadened access, greater ease of use, and higher satisfaction for individuals and their communities. The activities of IHI have evolved and grown for a decade. This evolution reflects more than just the inevitable changes that every organization undergoes. It reflects the development stages that the professional health care community has experienced and must continue to pursue in order to ensure future improvement success. IHI has a staff of 50 and a yearly budget of $22 million. Twenty percent of IHI's revenue comes from private and government grants, and the rest from tuition, conference dues and the like. Approximately 80% of IHI's revenues are generated in the U.S. and Canada.
