Description

Catholic Healthcare West, with 42 hospitals, spans a service area that encompasses part of Arizona, Nevada and most of California. Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) is a health care system sponsored by a number of religious orders. Catholic Healthcare West announced plans to cut a number of positions and change its organizational structure in 2001 in order to become more profitable and competitive. As a result, CHW has made gains in financial and operating performance during the past several years. CHW lost $1 billion between 1999 and 2001. As CHW entered 2003, the organization was moving into profitability.
