BJC Health System is the largest health care system in the St. Louis area, with a 33% market share for hospital patient volume. BJC Health System was created in 1993 as the result of a merger of Barnes-Jewish and Christian Health System. BJC Health System operates 12 hospitals and approximately 100 primary care and home health care facilities in and around St. Louis, both in Missouri and Illinois. BJC Health System, which is affiliated with Washington University Medical Center, has traditionally operated on an integrated care model. However, losses in its physician practice and insurance operations have prompted BJC Health System to reconfigure its primary care network. |
