The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society (The Society) began serving communities in the 1920s. The first center opened in 1923. The Good Samaritan Society later grew from providing services to physically and mentally handicapped persons to providing services to elders and others with special needs. The Good Samaritan Society has identified four hallmarks that should characterize the organization: Christ-centeredness, Resident-centeredness, Staff-centeredness and Community-centeredness.
