AmSurg was formed in 1992 for the purpose of developing, acquiring and operating practice-based ambulatory surgery centers in partnership with physician practices throughout the U.S. AmSurg, the industry's leader, owns a majority interest in approximately 107 surgery centers, with nine under development, in 27 states and the District of Columbia. An AmSurg surgery center is typically located adjacent to, or in the immediate vicinity of the specialty medical practice of a physician group partner's office. AmSurg's surgery centers are operated as a partnership between the physician partners and the company.
